I am trying to install Vista on a fresh install booting from the DVD.
Windows copies files, has the Windows 2006 bar and then just as the splash 'install' screen should come up I get this:
STOP: c000021a Fatal system error 0x00000000 (0xc0000221 0x001003c0)
I have tried disabling all but essential items in the BIOS, but nothing makes any difference. I have verified the iso and it is fine.
Sys specs: Intel Pentium D 950 Asus P5WD2-E Premium MB Asus EAX1900XT VC 2 Gb DDR2 RAM 80 Gb SATA freshly formatted

BSOD Vista 64 bit
I'm not an expert but in my experience this may be down to not loading the correct SATA drivers for your controller. I would check your motherboard website for BIOS updates and updated drivers for Vista first. Also check the site FAQs etc. There may be other drivers/info. from the boards chipset manufacturer also. Make sure that you have researched thoroughly before trying again.
Apologies if you have already done the above but this is probably the extent of my wisdom.
Buff.

This BSOD is happening before any offer of installing drivers.
I have the latest bios installed.

No. There is no such thing as an offer of installing drivers once file copying has begun. That is long too late. In the beginning, at the screen where you make the choice of what partition to use, there is a Load Drivers button. You have to start over and look for it on the beginning screens.

All is solved now, 64 bit up and running fine.
I just have to check if it is a bad ram stick, a bad socket or just vista not liking my 2 x 1Gb of DDR2!

Definate bad ram stick!
As this memory was only 2 months old, it was at the bottom of my list of possible causes.
Both 64 and 32 bit versions are now running stable.
